The Upgrade!
The Upgrade!

Once a month a group of new media artists,
curators, technicians, cultural operators and others interested
in technology arts gather in Sofia. The meetings take place at
a variety of locations in Sofia, bars, cafes, galleries and studios.
Each month one or two local artists present their work to their
peers follwed by an informal discussion and music by special guest
sound artists and djs. The general idea is to have a good and
interesting time, to meet people and to build collaborations and
a community for the local new media artists.
The Upgrade! Sofia is a regular forum for
us to gather and look at each other's work. At each meeting the
artists will present work in progress, past work or a concept
that fosters a dialogue with the group.
Kyd Campbell and Ivo Ivanov curate the events and InterSpace provides tech
support. Kyd decided to bring The Upgrade! to Sofia because, she
once heard somebody say, "We have no sound artists in Bulgaria."
She knew that this was not the truth. Realizing that there was
not a lack of new media artists, she deduced that there must be
a lack of dialog.
Meetings will be held either in Bulgarian or in
English depending on the presenting artists. Translation assistance
will always be available.
The Upgrade! Sofia was founded by Kyd Campbell,
artist, curator and producer of new media, sound and video projects
and InterSpace Media Art Center with the focus on building networking
and diffusion capabilities within local and international communities
and allowing the youngest generation of artist a chance for professional
development.
Upgrade! Sofia is open to every artist that
is traveling this way to meet the team, present his or her work,
and become introduced tothe local scene with aim to develop collaboration/communication.
The Upgrade! Sofia team consists of:
Petko Dourmana - Director, InterSpace Media Art
Center
Yana Kostova - Independent Curator
Ivaylo Ivanov - Artist and producer
Yovo Panchev - Co-oordinator, Studio Dauhaus

new media projects, engage in informal critique, and foster dialogue
