nov 05: virginia zaharieva

On Thursday, November 3rd, 2005 Virginia Zaharieva gave a presentation about her work in sound art. Her work involves sound taken from field recordings in nature and in public places. Constantly taken by the sounds around her, she because inspired to capture them in order to be able to bring them home with her. She has released and produced several album of Bulgarian soundscape. Recently she has been researching means of manipulating her field recordings and has visited several sound art events in order to search for possibilities. Zaharieva began as a more traditional sound artist and is now coming into a new media practice. She shared her newest newest field recordings with us and compared them to some of her past works. The discussion adressed her shift from traditional recording and gave some suggestions of what directions to take with her new recordings. Throughtout the presentation Virginia played a background of sound works and photos were projected.

At this first meeting in Sofia, The Upgrade! International was presented to the group. Translation from Kyd's presentation in English to Bulgarianwas made by Margarita Dorovska from InterSpace.

After the presentations a short video titled Nowadays in Sofia which had missed the recent CinemaSports deadline was presented by its makers.

The evening was the opened up to music by visiting DJ Prions En Eglise from Montreal.
